Cybernetic Police On the Hunt (Clip Studio Paint and Blender)

Just in for the weekend. I’ve made another video using Clip Studio Paint and Blender with a bit of a science fiction spin. The cybernetic space police are on the hunt looking for the one that got away. Whether it’s on a distance planet or the surface of a comet, the cybernetic space police can go where others can’t.

The Concept Art Idea Book 2 has finally been published. It’s been almost a year since I started working on my book. I’ve had some recent posts about my progress over the past few months. There were days when I had to take short breaks and there were days when I took some longer ones. There is nothing better though than the feeling you get when you can say that you are all done.

How I used Clip Studio Paint and Blender to create an animated video (1st YouTube Tutorial)

The tutorial has both the video screen captures from Clip Studio Paint so you can watch me draw and it on screen video capture from within Blender so that the process is more understandable. I am a little nervous when speaking publicly but this took it to a whole new level. Next time I’ll practice what I’m going to say more but the final project does sound pretty genuine which is what I was going for.

I created another digital art piece combining Blender and Clip Studio Paint. This is an extra bonus since I just uploaded City Witch last night. I should probably think about pacing myself. 🙂 I am going to go back to posting only once a week but I had a vision in my mind for this one that I didn’t want to lose.

The design is about 40 layers most of which are corrections and refinements that I made as I went back over during the polishing stage. I just paint over areas I’m not happy with and use another layer. Don’t judge. Each to their own right?

Have you ever noticed the relationships between different artist skill sets? Sharing my continuing work in progress of my new concept art book. I have had to digest hours of YouTube videos and Pinterest images of various types of page layouts to get the knowledge I needed to successfully make my own.

    The Wood Witch YouTube Video

Just uploaded my next video on YouTube. It’s a combination of an illustration made using Clip Studio Paint and Blender. As an artist, it’s very important to utilize all of the tools out there…and boy are there a lot. Blender and Clip Studio Paint work very well together in that you can start a project in one application and finish it up in another. Most folks I know create grey boxes in Blender, export them, and then import them into their favorite drawing program where they create their final illustration.

Desert Witch Blender Animation

Desert Witch Process

The design is about 25 layers using many correction as I went to adjust color and aesthetic for the overall design. This was created using Clip Studio Paint for the digital drawing / painting process.

Base colors and composition
Colors and Highlights
Final Polishing and Background details

Blender Enhancements

I uploaded the finished .png into Blender and added some additional lighting effects. For this design, I created a particle field to simulate the effects of being in a desert sand storm of some sort. The light which I set to 1500W, really sets off the glow that I was looking for and color matched very nicely with her clothes and other highlights. I just love the versatility I get when I use Blender.

Forest Witch

I created another digital art piece combining Blender and Clip Studio Paint. This is the next installment from last week’s post. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been witch themed for a while now. Makes me almost wish for Halloween again.

Blender Enhancements

I uploaded the finished .png into Blender and added some additional lighting effects. This was a lot faster this time because I saved my last project as a template. All I needed to do was change the lighting colors in my volumetric cube and upload the new illustration to replace the old one. The longest part is actually rendering the animation.

Below are some of the other versions.

Concept Art Idea Book 2 (Page Design Sneak Peak)

Sharing my continuing work in progress of my new concept art book. I have had to digest hours of YouTube videos and Pinterest images of various types of page layouts to get the knowledge I needed to successfully make my own. So thankful to all of the content creators out there who showcase their ideas and make products for newbies like me to learn from. As I learn more I will certainly pay it forward by making my own.

What have I learned so far?

Graphic design is as much a form of art as the illustrations I have spent most of last year creating. The layout process has a lot of similarities to the principles of design that I have been learning. For example, balance, composition, and focal points are also elements that you have to keep in mind when laying out a page. Another epiphany I recently experienced is that the same storyboarding technique I use to lay out a comic page works great to lay out a page of text. By taking a piece of paper and sketching how I wanted my page to look first gave me a decent road map to where I wanted to go. I’m just so intrigued by how many relationships I’ve found between skill sets. It helped me to reduce the fear of learning something entirely new to realizing that I’m really just adding a layer to what I already know.

Has anyone else experienced this? I’d really like to know epiphanies you have had.

Book Creation Process

I’ve been using Microsoft Publisher to lay out the pages for my book. It’s an app that I rediscovered on my PC. While I used to have InDesign, I found that MS Publisher is a very inexpensive way to accomplish the same task. As long as I compress my images, I can keep moving along pretty well. With almost 60 pages in my book full of images, I was worried it would lag but so far, so good. Once complete, I’ll upload my finished book and build a downloadable .pdf for purchase as well.

If anyone has any feedback on the page designs, I’d love to know what you think.

Happy writing!
