Halloween Pumpkin

Oh No!! It’s almost #Halloween. The time of year when the ghosts, goblins, and my favorite….PUMPKINS come out to play. This video is a timelapse of my first Halloween pumpkin of the season. So put on a sweatshirt, grab a warm drink, and enjoy the show!

The Design

I started out with a few sketches to figure out what type of design I wanted to use. It just came to me to have a candle stuck on the side of the pumpkin’s head that he could react to. In the above screen shot, you can see the inks that I applied to the line art. It’s not necessary to ink your digital paintings but I learned how to draw comics a long time ago and it’s sort of stuck with me to create a nice line art base.

The Flats

These are the colors that I initially chose. During the flatting process, it really doesn’t matter what color you chose as I merely use the flatted areas to create selections from for shading or finer detail. Flats are typically placed under the line art layer so that you can see what you are doing much easier. Using layer masks also helps keep me from coloring outside the lines.
